OOS NMF admitted to FSU and UF here.
Can anyone share current information about funding for the scholarships? State budget in any danger? Anyone getting assurances from the schools?
Doesn’t look like visiting the campuses to ask questions will be possible. All advice appreciated.
Anyone…Bueller…
Rumor is that FL is voting on their state budget. Would love to know how things look for University funding.
Thanks.
I don’t see a problem with taking 9 summer credits over the course of a four year degree. It might create potential for early graduation or double major.
Has this been a problem for others?
I believe UF has said they would not guarantee 4 years of scholarships if the Benacquisto goes away while other FL publics have.
Yes we have heard that there is no UF guarantee. Very strange. Would the school really leave students hanging?
Does anyone know if UF uses their own scholarships(Sunshine, Gator Nation, etc.) as a sort of backstop for the Benaquisto? i.e. if the state were to cancel the Benaquisto would students that were initially offered Sunshine still have it to use to finish their degree? Or is there a real chance that current students would see costs jump to full price(OOS)?
If UF says they will not backstop the Benacquisto, then I would assume they would not Benacquisto.
No, the UF scholarships are given out mostly to freshman If the Benacquisto ends, UF doesn’t guarantee to use other funds. In fact, UF awards the 300 scholarships but if those receiving them don’t attend UF, the school doesn’t give that money to other students. There would be nothing to give them out. At UF, Benacquisto is an outside scholarship, but it is administered by UF.
Is the Benaquisto scholarship taxable?
It’s taxable if it is used for non-QEE, so the portion used for room and board is, and any ‘extras’ that is refunded due to stacking other scholarship. Same as any scholarship or grant money.
