UF doesn’t have EA, but being OOS doesn’t hurt or help. All are viewed are equally, test score is good, but GPA is a bit low, but your EC’s, etc. are impressive. I bet you get in!
@JPGator98 Oops!! I applied so long ago I felt like it was EA! But thanks so much, I know my GPA is on the low side but I have my fingers crossed! Thanks!
I think your stats are in range of what they’re looking for, the geographical diversity is a plus, and your ECs look great! I’m putting my money on you getting in. The decisions don’t come out until February. Good luck!
@STEM2017 I don’t, I do believe they view OOS in one sector and IS in the other, but I don’t think they have different standards for either nor are the OOS separated from each other. What I personally believe.
Technically the Nov 1. deadline is EA and everything after that is RD. UF is different in that almost all admissions come from EA, so we view it as if it is RD.
@CaucAsianDad I would still not classify it as two decisions as if you apply after Nov. 1 you are determined on a space available basis, meaning not very high percentage to get in.
I’m just speculating here, but in the information session they made a big deal about how they had increased the number of out of state students. I think it’s along the lines of them considering themselves a National University, and their aspiration to be a so-called Public Ivy. So I’m under the impression that they’re happy to have out-of-state applicants as long as their stats are very good – either better than average, or with some kind of “added extra” in the resume. Examples of added extras were along the lines of state or national awards, heavy involvement with a particular extacurricular (not sports unless you’re a recruited athlete), “applying for a patent,” having an article published etc.
So I would take that to mean they’re not anxious to take average or borderline candidates from out of state, but are happy to have them and consider it a plus if they have strong stats or that “extra” quality. Just my interpretation of what was said in the session, unless I’m misreading it.
@Trisherella see that’s where I don’t agree. I have spoken with admissions many times and all have said the awards area on the application doesn’t carry much weight (if at all any) and will not make or break your application. However, I do agree about the aspiring to become a Publix-Ivy and expanding OOS with great stats as well as EC’s, but I believe average STATS and average EC’s will get you in OOS.
