Essays

1) I wrote about how I moved out of my parents house when I was a sophomore because my mother's frustrations about my step-father's neurological disease stressed me out. Then about how it made me more independent, and how I focused more on my education and learned how to take care of myself.

2) For the cultural essay, I wrote about what it's like to live in Southern California and how i'm always exposed to different cultures and how you have to keep an open mind or else you will only view people based on stereotypes. Something like that.

thanks for all of the replies. and yeah, i know that my ACT score is pretty bad. I took the SAT and got a 1590, which is even more embarrassing. I just don’t perform well on standardized tests.

I think you’re in. From what I believe, UDub looks at the whole person. As you know your ACT is low, but your character seems very strong and sincere. If your essays reveal who you are, your in. Just from reading your message… I get a good feeling from you and I think admissions should like you too.

Your EC are good too. I was accepted with EC w/o leadership, but consistent. Also OOS. Good Luck.

I agree with jkaplan, Business is very competive, go undeclared or check into this more. Good Luck

Your ACT score is actually between the mid-50% range for admitted students (24-29), so I don’t think you should lose hope based on that alone. You have a lot of things going for you in your application, so I think you have a very good chance of admission.
