There’s not that much money for in-state kids. Numbers of OOS kids admitted has been increased in the hope of getting more students paying the higher OOS rates.

Unfortunately, you are looked upon as a revenue source.

Based on what has been reported here, OOS kids actually get more scholarship money than IS, however it is rarely if ever enough to cover the difference between OOS and IS tuition. As MADad said, OOS students are now a cash cow, the best OOS students get a discount on the difference.

Check the past “accepted student” threads to see what others got.

Thanks for info…what I thought but not what I wanted to hear. Interested in sports management program and want to go to school on East Coast. I am guessing most students are in state and not 2 many students from California.

UMass gets about 16% of students from OOS, CA seems to be one of the more common states, although they don’t report actual numbers for each state:

https://www.umass.edu/admissions/facts-and-figures/student-body-and-admissions-statistics

The Sports Management program is one of the most competitive majors at UMass. Good luck!

Thanks. There is absolutely no money in the state of California for financial aid or scholarships. Most students with good grades/test scores are looking out of state to go to school. Sad situation…

Officials hope to increase the OOS numbers to 30% of the student body, to increase revenue. We’d love to have you Californians (and your money!!)

I would love to come but unfortunately I dont have the money…hoping the merit gods shine down on me

If you get into the Honors college, there are a few merit based scholarships you would qualify for. I think one is $10,000.
