Possible Hooks: I've moved 15 times=transferring schools inhibited me from getting 5 units of F. Lang could only get 3/interferd with APs; explains why im taking chem and bio this year, former virginia resident, Black

Is there any hope for me?? Please be honest.

Thanks soooo much! I was thinking the same thing because if you look at their stats I fit right in and in some places exceed. However, on CC people act as if you need a 4.0 GPA and a 2300(although this would be great) to even be considered for UVA.

I know right? OOS kids from my school got in with 1800 SAT scores and they didn't have the outrageous "hooks" that these people claim you need. Admissions officers understand how hard it is so I wouldn't worry.

for OOS? when? in 2000?

your class rank is low, as are your SAT scores. Being an African American will certainly help you. Your ECs are comparable, nothing outstanding. UVa will be a reach for you.

^^^ I concur...REALITY CHECK...google UVA acceptance rates

UVA is one the most selective state universities in the nation (top 5) according to USNWR. Your SATs and rank are way low...plus no leadership positions in ECS.

UVA acceptance rate is 38%. From that 38%, OOS is @25%, so if you do the math, you are at a reach. The minority status helps, but I am not sure it will get you over the hump. Moving doesn't mean a hill of beans...(VA has a lot of military children, their transcripts are from all over the country DS went to 9 PS and moved 13 times before he was 16). You could def be in if it is for something like dance or theatre, but not for non-LA

HOOKS are typically: Legacy, write a book, 1st gen from a country that doesn't speak Eng(i.e Croatia). NHS President for the US, etc... Moving is not a hook, unless it is in your essay about almost being homeless and then I would say you're in for that scenario.
