I'm an out-of-stater with a 1160 SAT. I have a 3.8+ umich GPA and very strong leadership positions. Do I have any chance at admission? I will apply within a week and I will retake the SAT in Nov.

1160/1600 i'm assuming?

even then thats quite a bit lower than average... def. try for the retake, and maybe try the ACT cus some people have better luck w/ it

BTW, i'm from NY and I rank within the top 2-3% of my class.

correct HauckT.. what should I get it up to considering my circumstances?

I would say 1300+ or 29+ if you're gonna take the ACT

hmm.. okay that's what i'll be reaching for

thanks

any other advice?

Alexandre?....

Yeah, 1160 is well below the mean of 1380. I suggest retaking the SAT (Is it too late?). If you don't score above a 1300, your chances will be slim because by the time the results come out, it'll be late in the admissions process. Definitely apply to some safeties, but don't give up on Michigan because your GPA is great.

Your GPA and class rank are right where they should me. But your SAT is low. To have a realstic chance, I'd say you need to improve your SAT by 100 points at least. Are you retaking the SAT?

yes, i am.. on Saturday and Nov 4th

ahh

Break a leg Mike. Your GPA and class rank are excellent, so don't sweat it.

U gots it Mike.... if your that smart in the classroom......you should do fine on the sat........Was the first time taking the sat the 1160.... the second time around you will imporve a lot.......i imporved 300 points........you can do it.....dont sweat it

Good Luck

I appreciate all of the input.

Any last minute tips for tomorrow's SAT?

Get a good night's sleep. So, if you aren't already sleeping by the time you receive this message,

Have an energizing breakfast and take a small snack with you to the actual test.

Don't sweat it. There are far more important things in the grand scheme.

Chances are slim.
I had a 2000 SAT and was rejected (in-state.)
They are a lot harder on out-of-staters.

I got my scores back... 1240 M+V

any chance?

bump.. anyone???????

Mike, like I said, your GPA and class rank are good. Your SAT is your Achilles Heel. You definitely have a chance, but your SAT is below the 25th percentile.

Alright Alexandre, thanks for the response. I figured a 1240 would be a tad better than 1160, but I know that it's still quite low. I'll be retaking in December... aiming for a 1400!
