As you can see your GPA is low, but you can overcome that with the SAT. and your class rank is low. Almost half of incoming freshman were ranked number 1-10 in their graduating class

UNC CH has @20% OOS, that means you have to be on the high end for everything and that is why I would say no for OOS

I tend to always error on the conservative side when dealing with OOS admission to UNC. That said, I agree with b&p that your class rank and GPA fall outside the average while your SAT/ACT are above the average.

In the four plus years I have been on the UNC boards I have seen applicants with absolutely stellar SAT/GPA outright rejected so trying to think that anyone can say with absolute certainty how UNC will make an OOS admission decision is impossible and will be at best an educated guess.

The big weakness I see is that while you had numerous varsity sports ECs it appears that they are the only ECs. I fully realize the time demands of varsity sports but most other applicants with varsity sports also show something else that they have some degree of interest/passion in.

if you wrote very strong essays and your recommendations are strong, the fact that you are a male applicant could help you.

I am also like eadad, I would rather err on the conservative side, better for you to say haha I am in, than letting us make you believe that it is a shoe in

Hope for the best, expect the worst is my motto!

I would also advise you to look at the likely letter thread, because you can get a good feel for the comp.

Unfortunately, I’ll predict this will be a much tougher year getting in to UNC. Both the in and OOS tuition “bargain” will likely draw top students not eligible for much FA - students that might otherwise have considered Duke, Vandy, Emory, etc.
