OOS Chances?

I'm a junior from Massachusetts who is very interested in attending FSU. What are OOS admissions like? These are my stats:

UW GPA: ~3.75, don't know weighted but I've taken mostly honors courses and will have taken 4 APs by graduation
SAT: 630 cr, 670 m, 640 w (my first try, will retake in the fall)
ACT: 30 composite (same as SATs)
Decent ec's, etc.

Thanks!

Yes, you probably have a good chance. FSU will recalculate your GPA – only academic courses will count in the calculation. They do not use the GPAs listed on your high school transcript or report card. From their website: " Grades of C- or better in dual enrollment, AICE, AP, and IB coursework will receive 1 full bonus point in the calculation; grades of C- or better in honors, pre-AICE, pre-AP, and pre-IB will receive 1/2 bonus point."

So your academic honors classes are worth an additional .5 and your AP classes are worth an additional point. ECs become more important only if your GPA and test scores are less than stellar. If your GPA and scores are very good, they won’t be very concerned with ECs (according to what we learned in an admission session.) They do really look at strength of schedule, including your senior year schedule. Your grades are the most important part of your application.

Your test scores are fine. (Both are already in the top 25% of admitted Freshman for 2009) If you get them higher when you retake them this fall, that is even better. FSU has two applications cycles – for the first one, if you get all of your info and application in by October (date is yet to be determined for 2010) you will receive admission notification in December. Any applications after October are announced in March, I believe.

Apply EARLY…in August, as soon as the admissions cycle opens. By all means retake the SAT and also consider the ACT. If you better your scores you have a shot at honors and scholarships.

Don’t fall into the “senioritis” trap.

I think you’ll have no problem getting in with those stats, but as Parent2Noles said, apply early. The earlier you apply, the better chance you have at getting scholarships. If you apply after October for the March decision, it’s unlikely you’ll get a scholarship. Plus, if you’re planning on living on campus, you will get a much better priority number (better dorm) if you can sign up in December as opposed to March.

Good Luck!

APPLY EARLY and you should be in. BUT APPLY DURING THE FIRST ADMISSION CYCLE, the one that is due in Sept/Oct.
