I'm considering some engineering colleges, and Michigan is one that I might be interested in, given its great reputation for engineering and its large size.

Does anyone know anything about Michigan's merit-based engineering scholarships for out-of-state students? What stats would likely qualify someone for a scholarship?

I've looked at some scholarships on the website (namely the Shipman and the Geisinger scholarships), but I was just wondering how difficult such scholarships are to obtain. The problem I have is that although it's likely my parents won't qualify for financial aid, they don't want to pay full tuition anywhere since they feel they can't afford it and they won't be able to retire if they spend money on college (though I'm a little aggravated at this since I feel they have been very selfish about the whole college process and I'm afraid I'm not going to get to go to a school that I deserve to and REALLY want to attend).

Thanks for your help. :)
