Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knows how good the following schools are with financial aid for OOS students, particulary OOS transfer students?

UT-Austin
UVa
UMD
Udel
UGA
Rutgers
UNC-Chapel Hill
U. of S.Carolina

Thanks in advance.

OOS transfer aid is basically non-existent at any public school, you may get a small merit aid of 1-2k but thats basically it besides a loan or two

I do not know about transfer students...but U of South Carolina gives wonderful merit aid to OOS students who they are luring to their school.

I agree with myheartisinohio...financial aid is pretty non-existant for OOS transfers....as most aid goes to:
1) in state freshman
2) in state transfers
3) OOS freshman
and lastly
4) OOS transfers
by the time they get to OOS transfers there is hardy any aid left except for loans. I applied to ASU as an OOS transfer and my parents and I got a 25,000 PLUS loan and that was all the aid. Be prepared to foot the whole COA..

Look at the threads for each school. Search in each school's forum for "financial aid", and there is usually a thread talking about everyone's aid awards this year, and how they were related to their EFC.

I disagree with the above posters. For one, ASU is notoriously poor with aid. I know that Texas, Virginia, and UNC are teriffic with financial aid. UVA guarantees to fill 100% of your demonstrated need. Nearly all of UNC's packages are in grants. Texas is the worst, but they still fill 95% and frequently you can get a scholarship making you eligible for a OOS tuition waiver as well.

umm... the OP is a transfer so I have no clue what you are talking about, the only schools that might give him decent packages are the top LACs and the ivies... outside of MAYBE UNC (i dont know much about UVA) he isnt going to get much

UNC meets 95% of an applicants demonstrated need. They have some of the lowest OOS tuition for a prestigious public. It's in the top 10 nationally for the best value, and is the best value public in the nation.

Virginia guarantees 100% filled. They are 2nd in the best value publics.

UT-Austin is 4th. They fill 95% of demonstrated need, although aren't as good with aid as Virginia and UNC.

All of those schools are very good with money irregardless of the student's status (freshman, transfer, etc.) and are particularly good with OOS students. Look at the reaction to many student's financial awards - even as transfers...

UNC's is scattered but there are a lot of posts about packages.

You don't know about aid. It's all such a guessing game. But if there are schools that give good aid, it's these schools, as they are among the Best Values according to US News and World Report

You can see the rankings here...

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/bvrankindex_brief.php

Of your schools, here are where they are ranked...
UNC-Chapel Hill 10
UVA 17
UT-Austin 30
UGA 41
UMD NR
UDel NR
Rutgers NR
S. Carolina NR

Out of state aid is not comparable (I feel) to that of private school aid even thought the prices are cheaper. I received more aid to go to a private school then a public out of state school. (21,000 debt at private for 4 years vs 60,000 debt at public out of state school)...

I am not saying that good OOS aid is not there. You just have to look more for it...especially if you are a transfer student. It can be pretty non-existant at MOST schools...
