OOS Financial Aid

I was wondering if anyone has any insight on how financial aid is at UNC for OOS students. I’ve read they meet 100% of financial need, but I’ve also read OOS students have trouble affording UNC. Are there any current OOS students with an EFC of 0 that could tell me what their aid package looked like? Thank you!

Have you used the net price calculator? For us it was very accurate. The NPC may not be accurate if your family has its own business, your parents are divorced, or if there are any unusual circumstances.

UNC meets full need for OOS students. If students have an EFC that is higher than the total cost of attendance, it is possible that the school will not be affordable.

Have you read about the Carolina Covenant?

One important thing to remember about the “meets full need” part of UNC is that while they do meet that full need it is through a combination of grants and loans. For my son the total FA package almost exactly matched our EFC. It was, however, a combination of about 2/3 grant money and 1/3 loan of which part was directly from UNC and part was federal loan.
I think, however, if you have an EFC of 0 that you would be a Carolina Covenant student and would have no loans either. I would recommend looking at the program if you’re accepted.

Also, UNC uses the profile to come up with the EFC. So fafsa EFC of 0 might not mean a UNC EFC of 0.

They require that the profile be completed for the first year and that’s it. Yes it’s a profile school…but they use the Fafsa efc.
