I was wondering how generous UMinny is to OOS students? I know that it costs around $25k in terms of tuition, room&board, and fees. However, I have a 0 EFC and was wondering how cheap UMinny would be in terms of just grants and all. I currently have $65k in debt from two years at other schools so yeah... Thanks!

Oh wow, thats a large debt for two years. Well I’m sure UMN would be much more generous or at least cheaper.

They usually give out the Gold National scholarship to OOS students, which covers the difference between OOS and In-state tution.

Well unfortunately I wouldn’t meet the requirements in terms of academics for that scholarship. But yeah it is a huge debt in two years. If anyone says “OMG 10K IS SO MUCH DEBT!”, I want to deck 'em in the face.

I’m bumping this thread because like the op, I’m also a potential transfer from out of state (Texas) with a 0 efc and I’d really appreciate it so much if someone could help!

Let’s say for Junior year I get the maximum Pell grant of $5350, $5500 Perkins loan, and $7500 Stafford loan, I’d have a gap of $5500 that I would need to cover room/board/books/tuition. More if I include transportation and personal expenses, which I hope to take of with work-study or whatever I can save. Would UMN be generous enough to toss in $5500 or more in need-based aid to help me out? Like many schools, I doubt they offer merit-based aid for transfers, so I’m not holding my breath for any of that money. But any advice would be helpful so I can decide if I want to set up a visit soon or start looking at other schools I’d have to settle for.

when will we find out what our financial aid is?

Has anyone received their financial aid package from UMN, specifically NoCover?
