I was wondering how hard it is to get a bid when you are OOS. I live in Michigan so I couldn't be there more than a few times in the spring/summer of senior year. I don't know anyone in any fraternities or even anyone who has ever gone to Texas. Also, do the fraternities want to see your grades and extracurriculars from high school?

When you are in Austin for orientation, just go to the houses and late nights. You will meet people then, and hopefully make a good impression.

They don’t need to see your grades or extracurriculars, there are no “recommendation forms” like for sorority rush. But, if you know some alums from fraternities that are on UT campus (don’t have to be UT alums), they could send an email to the rush chairmen giving them a quick rundown of who you are, and to watch out for you during orientation. Also, if they send your contact information, you will likely get a call or email from a rush chair. Rush chairmen’s contact information is on the websites (of the houses that have websites and updated information)

Here is the list of IFC fraternities at Texas

Good luck. There are a lot of fraternity parties at Texas during the summer, during the week and on weekends.

This is just a thought: Most orientation sessions run from Tuesday to Friday but if you want to spend as much time visiting fraternities as possible, if you can figure out a place to stay, you might consider planning to come the Friday before your orientation session and/or staying until the Sunday after your orientation session so you have extra Friday and Saturday nights in Austin.
