OOS - George Beadle Scholarship + Housing Credit Scholarships

We are looking into UNL as our daughter is being recruited for track and cross country and was wondering what additional requirements besides the ACT=29 does UNL factor into the Beadle scholarship. Our daughter has an ACT=30 and was wondering if GPA and class rank/extracurricular also factor into the award decisions? Is it automatic is you have 29+? The athletic scholarships aren’t much for runners so we are looking to supplement cost with academic money to make a final decision.

2). UNL offers OOS kids a resident hall credit of up to $3000 per year. Any idea what goes into the decision to award that?

Thanks and appreciate the great information on UNL.

You probably already have your answers but I will tell you what I know… The Beadle scholarship should be automatic with criteria detailed on the web. Once your daughter is accepted, she will be notified by UNL regarding academic scholarships she can expect to receive. My daughter is OOS and is also getting the resident hall credit so that is likely automatic as well (she is undecided on a school at this time). There is a written purpose statement your daughter can complete and this will give her the potential for more $. Also, there are departmental scholarships but these last two scholarships are not common for Freshman without a significant hook.

Good luck to your daughter and her athletics as well. Both of my kids ran XC and track in HS with my son running at UNL during his frosh year. Congrats to your daughter for putting in the hard work to be at this level.

I dont think the housing credit is automatic. We are OOS and DD recieved the Beadle Scholarship, but there was nothing about housing credit on her financial info sheet.

If anyone stumbles across this thread…

We have one child at UNL right now and another that just committed. The Beadle is automatic, pretty much any student with an ACT over 30 or a 4.0 gets it and it’s 15K/yr. A lot of times it gets paired with the Husker Heritage scholarship, which is an extra 3K/yr.

One of our kids got the housing credit, the other did not, the one that did is also a NMF and should get the Chancellor’s scholarship as well. Both of my kids had a perfect GPA and were top 2% in their class, so I’m not sure if the cutoff is maybe ACT-related?

Your kids are outstanding students to be awarded those scholarships/credits! How are they liking the experience in Lincoln as OOS? Did they know anyone when they were first-years? Was it easy to make friends? Do they socialize in their dorm or out on campus (what about when its cold and snowy?)
Do they prefer the learning communities in Abel to make friends, or the Honors dorm in Knoll?
Any chance they are Journalism or Broadcast majors? On our tour, we saw that the building is being recontructed for newer tech equipment and News Broadcasting studio, but aren’t sure when the new facilities open…hopefully in time for Fall 2023 students to take advantage of the progress.
Thanks for your input and advice.
