Hi All Again -
It appears as if the scuttlebutt (love that word...) is that OOSers do not get much money from UDelaware. My DD applied EA and would be in the running for the honors program. I believe that if they had a large endowment and did give money, that she would be a good contender. I was wondering if the fact that she is from Maine is a good thing regarding demographics? I would appreciate any input regarding this. Thanks so much!

Actually UD no longer has EA for OOS students (the Dec 1 deadline was just for full consideration for merit money and application to the Honors Program). All OOS students will hear from UD in mid-March. If your D is accepted into the honors program she no doubt will get merit money which, depending on her stats, could be as high as a full scholarship for tuition and room and board (and possibly even a little more if she is designated as a Dupont Scholar-but only a very few students are lucky enough to get this award). Two thirds of the students currently attending UD are from OOS. As a result UD gives more merit money to OOS students as compared to most State Universities. Being from Maine might be helpful to a small degree as compared to applicants from NJ, PA, NY, and MD. Of course no one can guarantee a specific amount but I believe the “skutlebutt” you heard was inaccurate. Actually UD also does awards merit money to OOS students not applying to, or accepted into, the Honors Program. Hope this info is helpful. Best wishes to your D.

I’ve found, based on my D’s experience and the experiences of people we know, that UD is very generous to OOS students.

I am currently an OOS freshman and I received a $11,000/yr scholarship and know many other OOS students who receive scholarships also. I am in the honors program.

oos tuition at ud is very expensive so i would think that ud must offer merit to higher stats oos students in order to attract them…in our case it is $10 K more to attend ud than our in state public in PA

We are OOS, NY, and D received 23,000 per year as part of the Distinguished Scholars program. She has a number of OOS friends who received the same or full tuition/room/board. Yes, its a small number of students within the overall student body, but it is there for some fortunate students with high marks and interesting lives.
