OOS getting instate tuituon

I am an OOS who got accepted into the fall term? Does anyone know the qualifications to be eligible for in-state tution sophomore year. I know I need to establish myself as dependent from my parents, but does that mean I cannot live in a dorm freshman year and have to stay in an apartment?

<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>http://admissions.fsu.edu/residency/policy/policy.cfm</a> “Living in or attending school in Florida will not, in itself, establish legal residence for tuition purposes.”

You won’t be eligible for in-state tuition sophomore or any other year.

The only way to be granted in-state tuition sophomore year as an out-of-state student is to participate in FSU’s First Year Abroad program.

To be classified as in-state, you would have to establish residency. This generally means buying a house, working in the state, obtaining a state driver’s license/voter registration, etc, for over a year. To be declared independent of your parents is not simple at all, especially if you’re under 24 or 25 or whatever the FAFSA age is.

The only way to meet the requirements would be to move to Florida, obtain a job, rent/lease a place, and after 12 months, apply to FSU. You’d likely have to take two years off in order to do this.

The “resident for tuition purposes” thing really doesn’t exist (it does, but it’s not like everyone can get it) in Florida. You have to go through extensive hoops to meet the requirements; it isn’t something that you can just up and do.

You may also qualify for an out of state tuition waiver if your GPA and test scores are high enough. I think the level was an FSU weighted 3.6 and a 2100 on the SATs.
