I graduated from the University of California, Irvine a few years back with a BA in Economics. Now I’m considering going back for an engineering degree. I don’t think I can go to any public schools in California because they stopped accepting 2nd degree students after all the budget cuts.

ASU’s out-of-state tuition is roughly $20k a year. That would still be $10-15k cheaper than if I were to go to a private school in California. Does anyone know my chances of getting in to the engineering program given that I’m a OOS transfer student going for a 2nd bachelor’s degree?

Also, do you see any older students going after a first or second degree at ASU?

thx

dexterla8,

I graduated from the Univ. of Iowa last summer with a degree in business/communications and decided to go back to school for engineering this semester. I dont know if you have yet begun classes or not, but i thought i was alone when I wanted to go do another 4 years for engineering, but ended up meeting a few other students who were doing the same thing.

I found your post because I want to transfer to Univ. of Arizona for enigeering, I have not visited the campus and don’t know anything about it but wanted to address your question about second bachelors and if there were older students at UA doing the same thing.

More students are choosing to stay in school because of the economy. Who really cares if you are the oldest student or not. Going back to school is one of the best decisions ive made. Its so much different the second time around. Follow your passion, even if its not the most traveled path.

I’m not sure about Engineering, but there are tons of older students. I think there may be someone in my Chinese class going for a 2nd degree…but not sure. Also, pretty positive ASU accepts pretty much anyone. And though AZ isn’t exactly doing great money wise, it isn’t in the situation CA is.
