OOS, Greek life at UT

I am out of state and looking to join a sorority next year as a freshman. I have heard that UT greek life is very competitive so I was wondering what I need to do to see that I get into a decent house?

You are correct, greeklife at UT is very competitive at UT. The absolute best advice I can give you is to go into the process with an open mind. All of the houses at UT are decent…in fact they are all great in thier own ways and each has something to offer. The biggest mistake that you can make is to go into recruitment thinking that you will only accept a bid from ABC or DEF. That is a sure way to be disappointed. There really is a place for everyone as long as you have a good attitude and keep an open mind.

You will need letters of recommendation for every house and letters of support. I would say that a good number is between 3-4 for each house. Do you know anyone that is currently in a house at UT? If so, that will be really helpful. UT is a game of who you know and who can “pull” for you…however, my D knows several OOS girls that got into houses…(those that kept an open mind). If you have specific questions, feel free to pm me and good luck!

Being out of state I don’t know anyone in a house at UT. How would I go about getting these recommendations and what is a letter of support?

You get the recommendation letters and letters of support from alumna of each sorority. Does your town/area have a panhellenic association? You can google your town or largest town near where you live. Contact the panhellenic association and they can guide you in what you need to do. Most of the time they will help you get the “Rec” letters from each chapter.
