Hi, I'm from Georgia and I submitted my app to Rice along with, as I recently found out, FIVE other people from my school! I know that a prestigious school like Rice wouldn't accept six people from the same school, and of the six of us, I'm probably #2 or #3 in terms of stats/ECs/etc.

So the real question is: because we are OOS and Rice values diversity, does that give us a better chance of having multiple people accepted from my school?

Rice doesn't have quotas for any school. I think they will look at each of you individually and ask "would this applicant be a good fit for our school given what we know about him/her from essays, EC's, and stats" rather than ask "which of these six applicants should we take". While it's true that it is unlikely for all 6 of you to get accepted, just because someone has better stats than you does not guarantee they have a higher chance of admittance. The way all of you presented yourselves in the essays has a LOT of weight in whether you get in or not, so I say just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

The higher acceptance rate for OOS is misleading. The OOS applicant pool to Rice is very self-selecting and exceptionally well-qualified. Cross admits for OOS typically are HYPS, Duke, MIT and Cornell.

There are 8 people at Rice from my high school in Georgia. I was probably one of the least impressive in terms of stats in a year in which 11 people applied. 8 of us got in.
