Hi There,
I'm trying to schedule flights for our OOS son to come home during Thanksgiving and Christmas break. I have a couple of questions. Do the dorms totally close during BOTH breaks? What day do the dorms open after Christmas break?

Thanks!

Answered my own questions! Found this link:

Hope it helps someone else planning ahead!

fyi - to save $$$ on airfare, I usually book my D to come home Tuesday before Thanksgiving. So far, her professors have been very understanding about her missing class on the Wed. before the holiday.

My son who will be a Sophomore next year actually had finals scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving. I would book for early Thanksgiving Day and returning on Saturday to try and save on airfare. With 15 years experience as a travel agent and working for an airline, I can say that trying to do the Wednesday before and the Sunday after is going to be very costly. Most frequent flyer programs black out those days for free travel.

I do agree that booking now is a great idea but I would not count on professors being understanding of leaving before Wednesday afternoon.

You may want to wait for your son’s schedule to be finalized, especially for christmas. Sometimes professors change the date of their final, so it is earlier than what the registrar choose.

Also, depending on his schedule and where home is you can go back to school Monday morning. It can also be easier if he has a lot of wednesday classes to go home wednesday night and miss his monday morning class.
