OOS: How to decide which "place" to apply? (Charlotte, Greensboro, etc.)

I LOVE North Carolina, but I'm unsure about which schools to apply to. The applications for UNC confuse me. I don't know which "spot" I can get into (i.e. UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington).
I'm also looking at North Carolina State University, East Carolina University, and Elon.

I am a white female from Northern Virginia, going into my senior year.

SAT: (taken one time only) CR 660 Math 780 Writing 750

GPA: 4.06 weighted, but I heard that some schools unweight the GPA AND take out non-academic courses, so I calculated this: about a 3.6.

AP's: Junior- AP Lang, AP US History
Next Year- AP Lit, AP Spanish (Next year will be my 5th year of foreign language), BC Calc, AP Gov
Honors: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalc, Biology, Chemistry. Also Pre-AP Eng. 9 & 10, Pre-AP World History I & II.

NHS 3 years, Math Honor Society 3 years, International Thespian Society 3 years
1 year Freshman Field Hockey, 1 year JV Field Hockey.
I've been VERY active in my schools theater department (4 musicals, 2 plays, and 4 years of one act play festivals), but I have no clue how to convey how much time and effort I've put into that.

Next year I will be secretary of the Thespian Society.

community service: 40 hours with NHS and 40 hours with the Math Honor Society

Chapel Hill is the best UNC…
judging from your SAT scores, you would probably be “too smart” for the other schools…

I agree with JG595116… UNC-Chapel Hill is the “real” UNC (to me, anyways). :)

Not so fast… No one asked what she wants to study… UNC-Chapel Hill is one of the most prestigious public universities in the US but it is a very large research university… But if you want to keep theater and a non-mega university with good academics then ELON. If you want outstanding academics, nothing but smart classmates, with a small town feel (and international reputation) then it’s Davidson. UNCW for marine biology… You get the Idea… So the question is what do you want to study???

First off, let me just say that I do not like “small town” type of schools. That’s the reason I’m looking OOS- bigger schools with more people to meet, as opposed to swimming in the same fish pool for four more years. Ha
I’m most likely going to study something in the communications area (Journalism) or law. I’ve got a couple more months of back and forth in my mind to decide :</p>

youre looking at uva right? uva and unc are always fun to compare
unc is better :)

If you’re interested in journalism, UNC is the place to go  Someone mentioned UVA, but if you are set on journalism being your major - UVA doesn’t offer it. You could major in English or something similar, considering there is no communications or journalism. Your SAT scores are good, but I would also considering Elon (its small, but gives good communications scholarships) or Appalachian (in a small town, but a bigger school). I’m looking to major in journalism, and UNC is my first choice. UNCG also has a strong communications program.

UNC is terrific for all the areas you mentioned - Communications, Journalism, Political Science/History/Public Policy. UNC has strong departments in practically everything (except Engineering, which is nonexistent of course, but you don’t seem interested in that). The theater scene is also very vibrant.
None of the other schools you mentioned have academic programs that match up. I think you’re a fit. I also think you have a good chance of getting in, based on the info you gave.

Also, to convey your passion for theater, you could write about an occurrence that really affected you in theater - a certain conversation that sparked something, a performance that made you realize what you loved, etc. There is also a space on the application in the extracurriculars portion asking you to put down approximately how many hours you devote to each activity.

If you’re into theater UNCG is wonderful, as is UNC-W
