I am OOS and sent in my app 3 days before the deadline. I don't recall anything about an Honors College. Was it simply an extra essay on the normal app? Are decisions for the Honors College already out. I got an acceptance letter but no mention of an Honors College.

I completed my FAFSA but not a CSS profile. Recently, I got an e-mail saying my finaid decision was $3500 a year in subsidized loans. And just today I got an e-mail urging me to confirm enrollment. Am I effectively out of the run for merit scholarships?

EDIT: I realized that the honors college is only for the literature, science, and arts college. I am an engineering major.

Do you find out about merit awards through regular mail only? My financial aid information is available online - but there is no mention of merit awards. I hope that doesnt mean that I won't be getting any merit award!?!

It sounds like they do not give out a lot of OOS merit scholarships, but I think they have until April 1 to give them out. I could see them waiting up until that day, considering ivies and other elite colleges send their acceptances out around the 1st.

my dad has money but i need to find some way to offset these astronomical costs so i dont feel so guilty putting my parents in that kind of financial burden. any ideas guys...i haven't worked a day in my life but maybe its time for me to get off my ass and get a job...

"The University of Michigan has very few merit only scholarships for out of state students. The majority of our financial aid is need based. Generally we are unable to meet the total need of out of state students as we are a state supported University. Unfortunately you fit into this category."

I am OOS and only got $3500 in loans per year. I thought I would get more merit since I know people with lower stats then I have who got merit aid. Oh well, I guess it makes my choice easier on where to attend college.
