It appears financial aid awards are online now for those who got early acceptances. It was lower than we were predicting based on past years. Feeling disappointed. Did you have a shock, too?
Where can students receiving merit scholarship view their award?
In their iroar portal. login (default screen should be the dashboard tab). select iroar, then financial aid, then award, then award history.
Thank you @xn3mom
@excitingtimes I am also disappointed as I was hoping for last year’s amount. I do support the addition of a higher amount for the super high stats students. My issue/opinion is that the award levels overall are disproportionate. But they didn’t ask me. Luckily money isn’t a deciding factor for us. Congratulations to those who get the $20k scholarships!
How high do test scores/rank need to be to get 20k?
@dnbamom I think it has to be between 1540-1600 and top 10%
Woah! Cool! Not in that bracket, but maybe they will be successful at “buying” some high flyers. Will be good for the university overall, tho will eventually raise the bar and lower admissions rate over time. My daughter went to bed already and doesn’t want to check her iroar account this “late!” I’m dying to know! What’s another day…and it’s only money (lol…kidding…wondering if I’ll be able to sleep tonight knowing it’s on her portal!).
@dnbamom you can use this if you know her scores and class rank. It was fairly accurate for us. Our school doesn’t rank though, so got the lowest that my scores offered.

So… if the average SAT at your school is 1510 and you are not in the top 10% but have a 1570, you are penalized for going to the 2nd smartest school in the country!
Please see post #615 in the “Clemson Admissions - Class of 2023 DISCUSSION.” It details the 2019 breakdown of merit scholarships for OOS students. I’d repost here but for some reason it triggers the Moderators and would take a few hours to show up.
And yes, @excitingtimes it was a little disappointing to see the award drop by $5K from what I expected. The addition of the new $20K level and subsequent narrowing of the other award bands meant we missed our hoped-for $15K by 10 SAT points.
Does setting up an iroar account commit you at all to enrolling? I haven’t activated my username because I was waiting to see my merit.
@Tuxrd2 no
I did the NPC and it has zero for merit award. Is that possible with a 34 ACT?
@Leaddog if your class rank is lower than 15% it may be possible See the chart @PSU83EE posted in Clemson Admissions class of 2023 Discussion post #615
His school doesn’t rank so I have no idea.
Is OOS scholarships based strictly on rank, SAT/ACT, or a combo of both. For instance, what if rank is high but SAT/ACT on the lower side?
So here’s the question: if your high school doesn’t rank, does Clemson assume you are top 10% or do they attempt to make an educated guess. But as far as the calculator if you don’t put top 10%, the calculator assumes you won’t qualify (I think).
@leaddog if you do the NPC it specifically says students that are not ranked will be considered for merit money however unless you put in an estimate of class rank the NPC will not be able to do a calculation.
Last year my daughter who went to a HS that didn’t rank had a 35ACT and a 4.0UW and got the highest amount 15K. They have a way to figure it out. I would guess with a 34 you are getting the 15K if your grades are at or near a 4.0
If you have been admitted go into your Iroar portal and supposedly the amount of OOS merit award is listed.
Good luck to you.
Thanks so much!! That’s a good answer! I can go from here.
