DS got the Woodrow (we are very appreciative and very excited!) and I know that in general state flagships give loans to OOS kids that have financial need and grants to instate kids that have need.

Does anyone have experience with OOS need based aid for South Carolina? Our EFC is around $7,000 and with the Woodrow, adding in food and housing, we are looking at about $24,000 a year.

Should I expect an offer of maybe a loan or two, or is there hop that we will get additional need based aid?

I’m in the same position! I have a high EFC though but it is below the net cost of the school. Is there a limit to the amount of loans they will give you?

I’m in-state, 0 EFC and I only get federal need-based aid (Pell, Work-study, and Stafford loans). I did get the SC Need Based Grant freshman year. (That was $1500.)

USC doesn’t really give out need-based money. They give out the federal grants, work study, loans, and then in-state students sometimes qualify for the SC Need-based Grant.

The limit of financial aid is determined by the total cost of attendance, which for in-state is about $20k a year. Not sure what it is for out-of-state, but they won’t give you more than that.

But to sum up in short: Don’t expect anything much in the way of need-based aid.
