OOS Public or CCC-->Transfer to in-state public

Starting college Fall 2012 and am trying to narrow down my options. I was accepted to one local private LAC and deferred from one other more local one. I was also accepted to an OOS public and am waiting on a reply for an OOS private LAC. I didn't apply to any in-state publics and the time to has passed, but I want to start college this year as I have already waited a few years and want to get the show on the road.

I am considering a CA Community College and then transferring to an in-state public after a couple years there. Would this be a more viable option in terms of cost to education? It seems that no matter where I go I will be paying some hefty tuition, however I am a veteran and my Post 9-11 will cover some of that. But I wanted to know from the community if they have found that going to an OOS public or a local private for 4 years is better than attending a CC and then transferring? The in-state public I would most likely transfer to isn't as prestigious as the other colleges and universities I have applied to.

Eventhough I have educational benefits from the VA, cost is still a factor as it will not cover everything UNLESS I do go to a CC and in-state public. So would it be worth it financially to do CC for a couple years and transfer to a UC or CSU with what will be most likely no student debt at all?

The CCC –> UC/CSU route is time proven, so it may be your best option. Contact the Transfer Advisor(s) at the CCC(s) most convenient for you, and ask about this. They would have all the details on the process. There also is a sub-forum just for this issue inside the Transfer Forum.
