Our son has a 3.35 GPA and a 29 on ACT (30 if super scored). He took one AP class Junior year and will take two Senior year. He is involved in two extracurriculars, and is a Student Ambassador for his school. His school is a private Catholic school known for its challenging curriculum. Is there any chance he could still receive the Out of State Scholarship or is it a rigid cut off at 3.5 GPA?

Thanks for your help.

It is automatic - based on GPA and test score alone (not super scored). No other criteria are taken into consideration. But you can use a weighted GPA, if that will help - they accept both unweighted and weighted. Would that make a difference?

Weighted grades would most likely raise it to around 3.4. We’re assuming they would not count 1st semester of Senior year in HS, correct?

No, I know for sure it says on one of their scholarship pages that only grades 9-11 are counted for scholarships unfortunately.

Why is the weighting so little? My kids went to Catholic schools and they weighted all classes because they said that they were all either Honors or AP level.

So, if your child’s school will do the same (they can just hand-write it on the transcript), then he would have the 3.5

Are you including the religion classes in his GPA? Bama does accept those classes, as well as PE, art, electives, etc.
