I am a current senior at a high school in Alabama and am interested in attending UT. However, in looking into the school it seems that scholarships are limited for out-of-state students. I am currently number 1 in my class of 400, numerous AP classes, many EC, leadership, ACT of 34, and SAT of 2250. I am interested in hearing from any students now attending UT who were out-of-state as to how they are paying for school, ie: what scholarships you recieved, possible out-of-state tuition waivers, etc. Much thanks to anyone who can offer some advice!

I’m also from bama and am attending it this fall. the ideal would be the Haslam scholarship which I didn’t receive but which would have covered everything. I got what I believe is the next highest, a chancellors scholarship. This have me in state tuition + $5000. The oos excellence scholarship was $10,000. This year they didn’t reduce the scholarship amount for Chancelors scholars even though the letter indicated they might.

Apart from those main ones I got a national merit, robotics, a dr. Lora bond(which I didn’t specifically apply for and was surprised to receive), and departmental scholarship. These added up to cover basically everything as if I were attending auburn on a full ride and made it possible for me to go out of state. I’m also playing a division one sport and they’re covering my books.

To give you an idea of how we compare, my test scores are a little higher(2350, 36). But my class rank was lower(top 20 out of 600). My essays were I think average and I did pretty poorly in my Haslam interview(I was a semifinalist).

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!

I’m sure you would receive merit aid with stats like that.
Side note; Tuition costs are increasing this year for in and out of state students.

What are you majoring in? This might be irrelevant to you, but my brother went to nursing school at UT, and is now working at UT hospital. My cousin did the same thing, and is currently doing a residency at Vanderbilt hospital. Going to UTK will open a lot of doors for you, nursing or not.

Thank you both for your replies! I’m looking into some sort of pre-dental or med or chemistry major.
@fuoly16 I would actually love to message you and ask you a few more questions if you didn’t mind!
