I live in New York and I was accepted really early to San Diego State University because I have pretty high stats and they probably want my OOS tuition. I’m really interested in attending but the OOS costs are really high and I guess scholarships aren’t awarded to OOS students? And compared to the kind of money schools in my state are offering me, it kind of would suck to have to pay the sticker price. If I show the school how much other schools are offering me, do you think they would match it or am I gonna end up paying the full price if I attend?
No, they are do not care what another school is offering you. Remember SDSU is a public university. The gal of a public university is to provide an affordable option for their taxpayer base, which you and your parents are not.
Are you eligible for and did you apply to one of their scholarships:

You will most likely be a full freight payer. Hopefully you have some affordable options on deck.

The Calif publics are accepting OOS students because it needs the money. It’s not desperate for OOS students for any other reason.
If your parents don’t want to pay the OOS costs, then go where costs are affordable.
Merit aid at SDSU is practically non-existent anyway:
SDSU is an extremely popular campus and has its pick of students, not only from instate, but also from OOS (second to Long Beach in the Cal State system). It is a very comprehensive university with sports, school spirit, atmosphere and increasing academic and research opportunities.
These schools were built to educate California students. They are publicly funded through expensive California resident taxes and California is always short of money, so they take qualified OOS students who will pay full freight.
I agree with previous posters that if you apply for scholarships, it won’t be much and it won’t be for 4 years. I was surprised that the amount was that high @BobWallace. Usually, OOS students complain that their scholarships are limited to around $2K.
Additionally, coming with an OOS transcript means that you will be paying $36K per year, for 4 years, because you can’t qualify for instate residency.
I love SDSU, but if we couldn’t afford it, and had better options elsewhere, we would go elsewhere and come back for grad school.
Thanks for sharing that @BobWallace and @“aunt bea” for your help. I guess I didn’t know that SDSU was so competitive but I understand now.
