OOS Student

I am searching the main website and can not find information on OOS students at VT. How many? Where from? Cost of attendance?

in addition, OOS admissions - is it better or a a detriment to apply for a specific academic major?

I don’t know the percentage but there are quite a few OOSers. Especially from Pennsylvania, Maryland and NC it seems. You’re probably better off being OOS than from NoVa.

As for cost: [Cost of Attendance | Undergraduate Admissions | Virginia Tech](http://www.admiss.vt.edu/cost.php)

I know in our DD’s wing, three of the girls are from NJ.

It can be a detriment if you are applying to very competitive program like engineering or architecture, unless you are a highly competitive student.

Here’s the Freshman Profile for the class of 2014: (It does not show numbers, unfortunately, but it does indicate the states with the most students at VT):

By the way, my understanding is that VT is looking for OOS students - with that high-pay tuition. According to the father of a VA-resident architecture student at PSU - 70% of the incoming architecture class at VT is OOS.

And here is a link to the VT institutional research website: (This shows that last year, 24% of the undergraduate student body was OOS - still no breakdown on individual states, however)
