How difficult is it for out of state students to gain admission to Uva? Do test scores, rank, academic records, etc have to be considerably higher? Would anyone know how many OOS students applied this past year and how many were accepted?

Actually about one in three undergraduate students is from out of state, so spaces for OOS students are not nearly as tightly contrained as they are in some other state flagship universities. Of course, state universities have missions to serve the states in which they're located, so OOS standards are always higher than for in-state applicants.

my d graduated UVA as an OOS. our info session of a few years back clearly and openly spoke to this...significantly higher standards for OOS-ers. high, as in ivy high, hence UVA is considered a "public ivy."
