Hey i'm thinking about transferring to UV for fall 2009 jus had a couple of questions?

Ill b coming out of a CC in miami fl with a 3.75+ (planning to ace next semster to bring it up) I wanted to get into CLAS and i have all the pre reqs completed...what are my chances?

Also im a minority student (african american student) and i wanted to know how the diversity is on campus..also about the nphc's...are the aka's and dst's active on campus....how is greek involvement for the african american community?

Fin aid
My efc is 0 and considering my academics r up to par..do u think ill be able to get a good fin aid package (OOS student)

My other option is UF I love UF and will probably get a full ride there but looking into UNC i find its a better match for me then UF because i wanna venture out of fl and go to a more prestigious school like UNC

If neone knows of ne other schools that compare to UNC please let me know

There is tons of diversity at UNC and a large African American community. UNC has the highest percentage of African Americans of any top public school in the US. There are also a couple historically black fraternities on campus. I don't know about the rest.

I just have to say....UNC > UF. Any day.

I'm an OOS student from Miami too, and any time I feel dissatisfied with UNC, all I have to think is "Well, I could have been at UF". I can't imagine being at a school with nearly twice as many students. Also, I'd imagine that you'd get more out of the UNC experience--academically and socially. I might not be at college with 50% of my high school, but it's forced me to branch out and learn to live on my own. Plus, if you can get a nice fin aid package from UNC, why not?! One of my problems was that I would get full Bright Futures from UF, but barely anything from UNC. Even with student loans, I still don't regret making the choice to go out of state.

By the way, excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong, CLAS as in Classics?

^^^Same here, Subrideo. I came from Killian, then transferred to SAS Kendall, which had a small student population. I personally can't imagine myself in UF. The student-teacher ratio is preposterous and unbelievable.
And I have to agree with you on another thing: It is time for me to move out and assimilate into a new environment.
UNC is definitely the better choice in regards to academics and everything else one can quite possibly imagine. Sure, if your a Floridian, you probably have bright futures. But you can't put a price on exceptional, quality education that UNC has to offer.

subrideo excuse my ignorance i met CAS (college of arts and sciences) at UF its CLAS (college of liberal arts and sciences)

danny i graduated from SAS- WOLFSON!!!!

i agree with u both on UNC being the better school...uf is sorta my safety..ne of u guys have ne tips as to the appl process..so far ive heard i need to focus on the essay and do the optional one as well

^^^Tigers, baby!
But I had enough of SAS Kendall. However, I enjoyed my 3 hour break everyday with research. :)

danny_125, I couldn't agree more. I'm going to be in debt over my head, haha, but I feel that it's definitely worth it. Admittedly, learning to cope with the differences between Miami and Chapel Hill took me a little while longer than some of the other Miamians, I think it taught me as much as what I learned in the classroom.

Hmm....app process...I had a really weird experience regarding my app with UNC, so I'm not really sure what I can say. I've heard the same thing before about the essays from other people, and I think it's good advice because it gives you an opportunity on the app to show your voice. Really take advantage of those opportunities. I think I always took the teacher recc(s) for granted too. This is kind of general, but I definitely recommend taking your time with the app to make sure it's polished and perfect (UF or UNC or another school). One of the mistakes many people make (including me) is rushing on the app because they put off the school and think it's easy to get in.

Good luck with your apps, wherever you end up :)! CH could definitely use some more Miamians though, ;)!

Im joining CHISPAS(a hispanic club) and the salsa team when I get up there.lol :)
