OOS Transfers, chances and question

Good evening,
My wife and I are out-of-state transfer applicants from a small two-year college in Maryland, hoping to be admitted to UMN for the Fall 2018 semester. Here are our stats:

Myself:
3.95 GPA, receiving five A.S. degrees in May.
(Math, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science)
Applying to CSE for Physics and Mathematics double major, Honors
Two years physics/engineering lab tech experience, two years tutoring experience
Physics departmental award

Wife
3.65 GPA, receiving three A.S. degrees in May.
(Biology, Environmental Science, Ocean Studies)
Applying to CBS for Ecology, Evolution and Behavior program, no honors.
Two years tutor experience.

Would anyone be able to give me an honest assessment of chances for both of us?

In addition, we have applied for priority decision through the Coalition Application. After three weeks, there is still no word on my application. My wife has received her verification that her application was received, but I have still yet to hear anything. Has anyone heard of something like this? I have called a few times and they’ve said they are looking into the issue, but I guess I’m just anxious.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings.

Have no clue but you both sound like nice, bright kids. I hope you both get in to your first choice programs!

You might call them and get your ID#'s to access the Application Tracker - that’s faster than waiting to hear from them.

Good luck!

Thanks much for the encouraging words, friend, we both appreciate it.

I’ve been on the phone with them four times in the past two weeks to try and straighten out the issue. They claim that they have yet to receive the application, and that they will notify me as soon as they can find it.

Update: My wife has received her student ID number as of last Friday, but still nothing for me. I have contacted the Coalition Application support center (which, might I add, it is ridiculous that they do not have a way to contact them via phone). I informed them that my application has yet to be received by the University of Minnesota despite having submitted three weeks ago. The response I received was simply the confirmation that my payment was accepted, followed by a screenshot of the submission confirmation webpage.

I am hesitant to contact UMN Admissions yet again, as I do not want to bother them especially at such a busy time of year for them.

Again, thanks to whomever took time to read this.

I’d get on the horn and ask to speak to an admissions supervisor overseeing the transfer applications because this might require a special look-see. You need access to your Tracker. Fortunately it doesn’t sound like there’s an issue with them not finding you credible (and you have the payment page with a date on it to prove the submission was made and in a timely fashion) but you don’t want to be dinged because they messed up on downloading your app. and then claim you never sent it on time.

I suspect they are experiencing significant volume now that they are on the common and coalition apps. That might be what’s slowing everything down. The first year admits were also experiencing delays and they are still making decisions on that group. However, they should at least be able to find your app. for peace of mind. Three weeks is a long time to wait and you want to make sure something didn’t glitch.

Good luck to you!

Another update, and this time good news: I took your advice and called one last time. Spoke with another admissions office representative. I spoke with him about my ongoing issue, to which he responded “Umm, we still have not found any trace of your application.” I asked to speak to the office supervisor. He responded with “Sure, just a moment…oh, they aren’t available currently, but I can leave a message with them and have them call you later today.” I, expecting further nothingness, agreed. However, a few hours later I received a call; the office supervisor. He explained to me that they have, in fact had the application since a few days after the submission date. He was puzzled as to why I had not received my email confirmation, and even more puzzled as to why everyone I had spoken with to date had told me that my application was not on file whatsoever. Finally, he gave me my student ID number, and assured me that any material we send in through the end of this week will still be considered for priority decision. I thanked him profusely for his assistance.

Long story short, I now have confirmation that my application has been submitted and accepted, and I will be receiving a decision at some point in the coming two months.

I want to thank you again, truly thank you for helping me through this situation. I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate it.

Now, let’s move on to other worries, namely “will my wife and I be admitted?”

The supervisors are a bit more knowledgable than the guys who answer the phone over there. While the latter are very nice, many times they are just students helping out in admissions. Someone probably forgot to hit the “download Coalition applications” button

Having to deal with hit-or-miss college kids trying to answer your admissions questions is by no means unique to UMN, so don’t let it discourage you. Good luck and be sure to post the outcome!

PS - not sure if the transfer students have access to the Application Tracker but now that you both have your ID #'s you can give it a go: https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/tracker/

Apologies for the delayed reply, busy week for classes.

Knowing that the school likely employs students in the admissions office allows for me to forgive the situation for the most part; especially for inexperienced students working here, this time of year is surely chaos.

Onto more important matters, my wife and I are both able to access the Application Tracker, and have been alerted to a bit of missing material which we have promptly sent in. The person I spoke with last mentioned that any materials we were possibly missing would be forgiven for the priority deadline because of the situation we had experienced. We have since started applying for housing, and I have submitted my UHP application a mere hour ago.

One additional question to anyone able to answer; What are our chances in terms of receiving scholarships? I just today browsed through the list of scholarships offered, and there seems to be plenty of available money for students of all types. And we being rather poor UMN hopefuls, any additional funding would be a great benefit to us.
