I am looking into the University of Texas and its architecture program. I am a Virginia resident though, and would need to qualify for some an out of state waiver or merit aid in order to attend. I did a search for this on this forum, but the thread was from a few years back so I don't know if things have changed. I also tried to look at the UT website, but it is kind of hard to determine what is available. Does anyone know if there is an OOS waiver if you are awarded some type of merit scholarship? Thanks in advance for any help!

You can get an out-of-state tuition waiver if you are awarded a competitive merit scholarship that is open to both Texas residents and out-of-state residents. Each school within UT has a certain (small) number to give out, however, these are getting more and more rare. All I know for sure is that engineering has the most waivers.

Thank you. I did see online that if you receive a competitive scholarship worth $1000 or more that you would receive an OOS waiver. Does anyone have any knowledge as to how many of those are awarded per year? Also, are most of the competitive scholarships renewable for each year you attend? I am going to be looking into the architecture school specifically. I appreciate the link!

When you apply to UT through ApplyTexas ApplyTexas; you will see a scholarship application (DEADLINE 12/01/2011!!!) which is the last part of the university application.
You will be automatically considered for President’s Achievement Scholarship (need-based), the rest of scholarships can be chosen from the list and some require special essay.
If you apply to any Honors program there will be additional scholarships (you are considered automatically, I believe)
Just remember about deadline.
