Oos

What are the chances for getting into PSU from OOS with these stats:

top 5% of class, sat's 740v 720m 730w (first round, retook oct 14th), sat11's 670 chem 740 us history, ap physic 5 us history 5 world history 5, ap scholar, national merit commended student, list of awards, ec's , great recommendations.

I visited the school last month and just love it. It is world-class as far as I'm concerned. I want to get into the Schreyer's Honors College. I hear the competition is pretty tough though for OOS.

Thanks.

You're in.

You've got a good chance for Shreyer as well.

As for being OOS when applying to Schreyers, we asked them the same question and they said not to worry about being from OOS because SHC makes absolutely no distinction between IS and OOS applicants in terms of admissions criteria. In the past ten years SHC has varied between 15% and 30% OOS first-year students in the SHC, and that variation has been because of those students' varying tendencies to accept offers of admissions, rather than any change in their admissions criteria.

You do have a decent shot. Based on what you say about yourself.
You have decent stats. SAT 2190 you have chance of getting scholarship.

You have a good shot at Schreyer - but apply before Nov 30 - the priority deadline. They give a $3500 scholarship if you're accepted. There are also various department scholarships (Mitte for Smeal business as an example - $5000 per year and Braddock for science majors I believe -not sure how much). My son is a Schreyer freshman and he likes it.

Braddock is full ride and additional money for research.
