Oos

I was just wondering why some OOSers got into cal poly ed, and then some students who live in state did not. I don’t want this to sound bitter or anything, I just want a better understanding. I thought the csu system was like the uc system, where they give priority to california students. While I do have lower test scores then some OOSers who got in, I thought status as a californian had more importance. Congrats to those who got in, but I want to know if I am up against more than just smart californians. Thx.

I'm an out of state student and I'm actually happy that Cal Poly hooks us up. Don't get me wrong, it is a public school so priority should be given to the students' who deal with California's taxes, but my in-state school (University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign) charges an outrageous rate for us instaters. The tuition w/ room and board for in-state at UIUC is equal to what Cal Poly SLO charges out of state students. So you guys do deserve priority, but don't be surprised to see more and more qualified students apply to Cal Poly because other options are becoming inaccsesible. Also, if out of state students who come from let's say the East Coast or Midwest are making the effort to try to come to Cal Poly, which is a difficult process then they should be given an equal shot against any other student. That's just my opinion, but then again, being an out stater means I'm biased.

I don't think Cal Poly is necessarily hooking up out of state students... Cal Poly still DOES give priority to California students, but all schools are different. The more prestigious UCs (Cal & UCLA) both admit more OOS students than Cal Poly does. Yet, Cal Poly, which is probably the most prestigious Cal state school, admitted more OOS students than UCSD, UCI, UCD, etc. So, the amount of prestigiousness (if that was a word) probably plays an affect also. But I guess it really all depends on the way Cal Poly accepts students, which is basically all numbers...

Thanks guys. College is so crazy to get into anyways. Props to those oosers who got into cal schools. Another thing i didn't know about cal poly.
