Not sure if anyone else sa , but an open call mt audition is going to be held in NYC in January. The 22nd. At Chelsea studios. Looks like 5 schools will be there : rider, wright state, Shenandoah, Texas state & univ of Alabama. Just FYI. Guess it’s one audition and for all five at same time. Cool. Guess all five reps from schools are in the room together.
MODERATOR NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT POST LINKS OR ADDRESSES OF WEBSITES THAT ARE BLOGS OR THAT PROMOTE SERVICES. I HAVE EDITED THE POST TO ELIMINATE THAT, BUT TO STILL INCLUDE THE INFORMATION INTENDED.
Interesting. I believe Shenandoah did this for the first time last year. I’ve never heard of WSU doing this before. It makes one ponder the evolution of all things MT. . .
Isn’t that around the same time as NY unifieds? Are those schools creating their own mini-unfied? Is it in context of coaching service (I am wondering b/c of moderator note) Interesting concept and I suppose a time saver…but what if you aren’t interested in all of those schools? Could be awkward to say “I am applying to 3/5 of these programs…”
Sorry…didnt know I could not post that info:( Anyway…if you look at Riders page they are promoting it also. I just saw it. Are we allowed to talk about FB on here? It is not in the context of coaching. It seems to me those schools are just trying to make things easier…kudos to them for that LOL I think they probably recognize you might not be interested in one of the schools, etc but hey…if my D went and only had to sing/do monologue once then yay! and yes @mom4bwayboy you are on the right track with your thinking…
I suppose my optimistic self would say that if you had a great audition for those 5 schools it could be fantastic. But my pessimistic self says what if a kid got nervous and choked…and now has ruined shot at 5 schools at same time?
My S has done these types of unified auditions before - as a HS student for colleges and as a college student for summer stock - with up to 50 or more auditing entities in the room. It really is a pretty efficient way to do things. I think it’s a given that you may not be interested in every program in the room.
@toowonderful even if you are only applying for 3/5 then for the rest of the schools that you haven’t applied to will be like a walk in, and if they are interested, then you’ve got more options to choose from!
How about kids who did not pass the prescreen for a particular school? It would seem a bit unfair if they are not allowed a live audition, when students who did not submit a prescreen are welcome at an open call???
@claire74 , even though D passed the prescreens, that’s what I thought last year when Shenandoah and Texas did this unannounced. I’m glad people have a heads-up this year, although it’s too late for the many who have submitted prescreens.
Here are the details from my colleague who put this together:
-Rep: Bring two 32 bar cuts and a one minute monologue.
-Sign-ups are first come, first serve on the day of the open call
-If your prescreen was previously denied by one of the schools on the panel, you can still audition and will receive full consideration from the full panel.
-If you already prescreened with one of the schools on the panel, you are already guaranteed an audition time with that school. You will still be seen by that school in this room, but it will not affect your scheduled audition time (from the prescreen).
-If a school is interested in you, you will find out after your audition. Each school will setup their own callback/interview protocol. If you are not interested in a particular school, you are not obligated to follow through.
-You will not fill out any applications or pay any application fees for this audition. If a school expresses interest and you decide you want to follow through with them, they will discuss the application and any fees directly with you.
Does anyone know if there are more schools doing this during New York or Chicago Unifieds. I feel so lucky to have read this thread, how do you generally find out about group auditions like this? Also, my daughter will be auditioning for NYU in the morning on the 22nd. If she isn’t done by 12, is it possible for me to sign up for her at the open call or does the student have to be the one signing up?
