I love the open door admission policy Case has - I don't feel the pressure to choose a major when I'm applying and I don't have to worry about not being able to major in what I want if I have a career crisis and want to switch from (Example here) engineering school to business school or to the arts.
Are there any other schools with an open door admissions policy or something similar that is flexible in going across disciplines and schools? Preferably academically rigorous schools. Thank you very much!

At WashU I was told it was very easy to double major / minor / switch majors between all disciplines.

I’m confused - are you looking for an open admissions policy or the ability to change/choose a major after admission? Most schools give you until the end of Sophomore year to choose a major and even longer I think to choose a minor. As for open admissions, the only one I know of is Columbia College in Chicago which is a great school but with limited majors.

I think you’re asking for schools that permit you to switch majors just by declaring them without having to “apply” to them within the school. The key you have to keep in mind for those kinds of schools is that you have to pretty much “wrap up” your major-switching by the start of your junior year if you want to have a chance to finish your ultimate declared major IN SEQUENCE by your expected four-year graduation date. Some majors can be condensed into two year stints, or use some courses you might have taken in your freshman or sophomore year as you taste-tested majors. So, keep that in mind – or you might accidentally wind up having a six-year undergrad experience.

An “open admissions” or “generous admissions” college is a different thing.

Most LACs should act like an open door policy since it’s usually just one college. For example my nephew is attending Bard for Math and Music.

You have to put “change major” in each college’s search box to see if there is any kind of admission process to change major. Of course, even when changing major does not require an admission process, you need to have taken the prerequisites so that you can complete the major without delaying graduation.

^, and as others have said, really any LAC and many universities as well.

thank you, all very good suggestions!! I’m looking at LACs as well, but of course smaller school usually means less major choices in general so the issue is what if I want a major they don’t offer there
