Anyone attending? Do you think there are any advantages/disadvantages over attending this open house, or would a regular college visit day be the same?

I went to an Open House. Personally it’s better than a regular college visit. You split up into groups based on intended major (if you don’t know yet, you can go to a general info presentation) and a professor gives a presentation for that. Then you can go back to the ballroom and go on a tour at your own time. There is a presentation for the dorm options, prices and such. Then you go on a self-guided dorm tour, which i personally wasn’t in favor of because my mom and I had to wander around til we found the buildings, (some of the signs aren’t very descriptive). There’s a financial aid presentation. A presentation about some of the clubs and services and things that the school offers. Over all it’s a good day and I would advise it to anyone. I would also advise WALKING or RUNNING shoes, no flip flops or heels (walking on the concrete can take a toll on the soles of your feet.) and LOTS OF WATER (:

thanks! i think i’m going. i went to a tour in the summer, but it’s just basically a tour, like it says it is. since i’ve been accepted i really wanna get all the information since i’m OOS and pretty far away.

does anyone know if the open house is free

it is free

free , but plane tickets dont come cheap lol

I’ll be thereee :)

cya thereee ! :)

I live in Miami, I have my own car, AND its on a weekend and my mom still wont let me go -.-

ahhhh , bummmer ! try to convince her maybe … idkk

why don’t you just tell her you’re sleeping at a friends? that always seems to work lol.

ali , consider going ?! hah

I went to an open house at UCF last July, and to be honest, it made me really excited about the school. It was my first real campus visit, so I was a little overzealous about it. But I think that helped me out a lot, because I wanted to see everything they had to offer that day. The only thing that I think I missed out on was seeing students on the campus, but if you’re going in the middle of the semester I think you’ll see a lot more than I did.

I would definitely recommend a housing tour and seeing all of the booths for the student life/financial aid/student offices. The first half of the day is pretty much planned out for you, but after lunch you pretty much pick and choose what you want to do.

Also, bring a drawstring bag or a big tote bag… you get A LOT of brochures, handouts, and FREE STUFF! I came home with a bag full of stuff like cups, pins, and I can’t even remember how many pens!

You’ll probably be a lot more comfortable walking around the campus than my dad and I were, we went in mid JULY. But we live about 40 minutes east of the campus, so we expected that much, but my dad really missed his sea breeze lol.

hah thank you ! that was really helpful . i guess taking a small wristlet would be a bad idea then like i planned . i plan on doing as much as possible , esp being OOS .

You have to have already been accepted to go to the open house, right?

I wish I could go! But my parents have work :(

itsxlizzyxxox is right, definitely bring one of the reusuable shopping bags maybe.
and no you don’t have to already be accepted. they’ll even go over the requirements for applying if you havent already.

Okay cool, what time does it start?

if I remember right check in is from 8-9 and it ends around 2 or 3 i think?

Senior-Take pictures and videos, pretty please! Ah, I’m so jealous right now! UCF sent me an email about it, and I got a bit excited for a minute, thinking it was actually an option. Then I realized that, even if my parents let me go, I can’t, because I have a violin competition. Yeah, violin. Sucky, huh? Tell us all about it, I want to know details!:D
