Does Hopkins provide shuttle service to/from the BWI airport for visiting students during open house? If not, what is the best way to get from the airport to the campus via public transit?

from BWI: Light Rail to Baltimore-Penn Station, then $5 taxi to Homewood campus.

Can I use the JHU shuttle from Penn station even if I am not a current student?

Yes, it’s not a problem. Once you get to the airport, take the light rail (which leaves from the airport terminal) to Penn Station for $1.60 or take the shuttle to the MARC/Amtrak train station and take a MARC train to Penn Station for $4. The catch the shuttle to the airport rail station, just go outside and follow the signs for the busstop. (All the airport shuttles that go to parking, rental cars, train station etc all stop in the same locations; you do not want the stop for the local buses, which is at a different location). If you decide to take the light rail, be aware that the light rail that leaves the airport does not go all the way to Penn Station. You will have to get off at the Mount Royal/Univ. of Baltimore stop and wait for another train to Penn Station, or walk to Penn station. For this reason, I recommend the MARC train. The light rail is cheaper but more confusing and takes about an hour to get to Penn Station. The train takes about 15 minutes, but you have to factor in a 10 minute shuttle ride. Look at the [trainp and light rail](http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/marc/schedulesSystemMaps/MARC_PENN_HTML_New.cfm) schedules to see what works better for you.

Once you get to Penn Station, you can either take a cab ($7) or take the Hopkins shuttle (free) . To take the shuttle, walk out the main (front) doors. Directly infront of you is a funky man/woman modern art statue, and on the right side of the status is Charles Street. Wait on the steps to the right of the statue for the bus. It’s either a white city-bus type bus that says “Johns Hopkins” on the side in huge letters, or a white coach-type bus that will say “Johns Hopkins” on the marquee on the front of the bus. Get off the bus at the 33rd street stop (it will stop first at 27th street and then at 29th street). That will put at between number 23 and 25 on [this map](http://apply.jhu.edu/pdf/walking_tour_2008.pdf). From there, find your way to Shriver Hall (for Open House checkin, #9 on the map) or Mason Hall (for overnight checkin, #1 on the map).

Hope that helps!

Edit: FYI to anyone traveling on weekends - the MARC train does not operate on weekends. Amtrak does, but that costs $20, so you will have to take the Light Rail or arrange a Supershuttle or a cab.

thank you so much!
