My daughter was admitted to U of Maryland and is still deciding where she wants to go. We visited campus, did a tour and information session last year. Is there any benefit to going to the open house as oppose to just visiting any day? We can make one of those weekends work but it isn’t the most convenient. Any information from someone that attended an open house would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any input you can offer.
@oliver17 The days are similar, but they offer a different perspective on what student life is like. I always advise people to come for one of the days, whether they have been to campus or not. It is a lot cheaper and easier to find out if the school is right for you now, instead of getting a call in the Fall semester telling you they want to transfer and hate the school.
Thanks! I was hoping someone would answer.
@oliver17 One other point. If Maryland is one of your daughter’s top picks, I strongly encourage her to stay overnight in the dorms the night before the admitted students’ day. D1 stayed overnight at her top four schools, which is a lot. But it was incredibly important in helping her decide where she wanted to go. She was able to get a much better sense of what “real life” at the colleges was like without all of the admissions people and parents hovering about! I’d recommend doing that for two or three schools if possible. Her preferences changed as a result of the visits.
Good point, thank you!
