I got to a school with a very open and accepting environment. We're extremely multicultural, but Dickinson aims to engage the world so I'm not worried about racism.

I was, however, wondering if anyone knew how open Dickinson was to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered/questioning community, and if the campus tends to be polarized towards a certain political affiliation. Also, does there tend to be an open-mindedness about different religious of belief systems.

As a current freshman, I can't answer your question about the attitude towards the gay/lesbian/etc. community - there is a club called Q&A (Queers and Allies) that does that stuff.

As for political orientation of the school - it claims to be moderate but as with almost any university or college, it tends to lean pretty left in terms of professors' opinions as well as those of students. I'll just say that when watching the State of the Union address recently in my dorm's common room, out of about 25 people I was one of the few that wasn't booing or being angry and nasty about the whole thing. At times I couldn't hear what the President was saying because the people in the room were complaining so loudly.

You'll find that most people here are pretty left.
