Hi HungryStudent! I’m currently trying to transfer to FIT and am super nervous as to whether I’ll get in! I a studying at FIDM right now, I have a 3.98 gpa, am on the president’s honor roll, in my major’s premier group, and have recently finished an internship at BCBG. Do you think I have a good chance of getting into FIT’s FMM program? I would just love a second opinion thank you!

Hi HungryStudent! First I want to tell you I think it’s so helpful and great that you were willing to help us who have questions- it means alot to me and it looks like that to others as well I have aquired so much useful, insightful info through your replies. So, I wanted to know, when did you heard you had been accepted into the Institute? I have heard we should hear from admissions by April. I am such a nervous wreck. Is it really by April, or later than, or could it possibly be eariler than? Thanks so much for your time :)

I can speak for HungryStudent here.
[Accepted to FIT(Spring)]

You will get your decision by April 1st.
It can come earlier if you sent it as a early decision or way before the deadline Feb 1st.
Most likely you will get it be April~. It might come later depending on delay as in you sending in things after the deadline.

i was wondering how difficult is it to get accepted into the FMM program? i applied for fall 2012. my gpa is an 89.95

@ariany

Your gpa can’t possibly be a 89.95 out of a 4.0 scale unweighted.
Are you an international applier?

@goodfornothin - no… out of 4.0 its a 3.4.

Hey goodfornothin, can you tell me what are the guidelines on late applications for FIT? Will they even consider them?

I am an international student applying to FIT this fall and im just wondering if GPA B- 2.6 is okay to be considered… what are my chances?? did anyone else get in with this GPA?

@greeniesky , I mean you can still send in your applications. [Deadline was 2/1] But just remember that the chances of you getting in is very slim. Those people who applied earlier will have the “first come, first serve” treatment. If you’re lucky enough and the classes aren’t filled yet. You can still get in.

@amy8797, I’m not sure about international students GPA. I know that FIT will take 3.0 minimum on avg. Your portfolio, essay also benefactors into your acceptance more too.

Hello, I have a question…
I have A.A. in liberal arts with 70 credits.
I want to transfer to FIT to major in Fashion design.
Sine I didn’t study Fashion design, seems like I need to do one-year AAS program, then two-year BFA program. But I have already taken liberal arts, so I only need about 80 credits to graduate based on my unofficial calculation.(32 for AAS 46 for BFA)
I can even take some possibly transferable classes this fall.
So I think I don’t need 3 years to earn credits I need.
Can I finish AAs & BFA programs in 2 years and half in this situation?
Do you know if they’re flexible with this?
or are these programs are fixed?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi HungryStudent! Really great of you to make this threat- so many of your answers has already helped me so much!

I am curious though, maybe you have friends or have met students that have transfered. I am just interested in knowing what kind of requirements they had. I am applying for FMM as a business major at a local community college. (3.4 GPA, working on the visual marketing team as a part time job at Victorias Secret.) I am just trying to get a feel for the type of transfers they let in because the website is somewhat vague. Anything you can give me will help :o)

Hi I am trying to Check my application status and it won’t let me I know I handed everything in. Does that mean I didn’t get in?!? I hope not. It’s my top choice.

You’ll get noticed by mail. Everyone does. People who received their letters already is because of their good academic scores in school. GPA and such

Thanks!! My average isn’t great but I take IB classes (full diploma) do you think that weighs in on it. I think my portfolio was good, and same for essays. What do you think?

I haven’t gotten a letter yet. I think my portfolio might have been weak (no idea, my interview was eh). But I do have a good GPA, and I’m taking rigorous courses, and I still haven’t gotten a letter yet.

Thanks! MyFIT account isn’t working either. It won’t let me check my application status. We still have about a week to hear back. What are you majoring? Communication design for me!

Is FIT the only school you applied too?

You should check out a career in [fashion merchandising](http://www.careersinfashion.net/fashion-merchandising).

I wish I have found this thread long ago. Sigh…
Well just in case that you would still answer questions about FIT, I’ll post my questions.

1) I’d like to know if FIT offers loans, and how much at most.
I live in LA and am accepted to Otis with great financial aid package for Fashion Design major, but I really want to pursue my career in NY, through FIT most importantly. When I get into FIT, I know that it is inevitable to be charged out of state for the first year along with a dorm fees. I don’t mind that as long as I can put that on my school loans. I will change my residency after the first year to pay much less.
2) Is there any restrictions about using dormitery for more than a year?
Since I’m going from LA, I’ll have to dorm, and I would love to move out from the dorm if I can find a roomates and a good room for lower cost, but in case I won’t be able to.
3) I took many classes and completed most of the GE units in my community college previously. Does FIT ever give transfer students credits for what they have completed?
Apparently, Otis doesn’t and I have to start from the Freshmen no matter what, and spend the four years to graduate.
