Hey, im attending cal (duh) and i'm trying to open a checking account. Im pretty sure im gonna go with Washington mutual, and am wondering if any of you know if there is a Washington Mutual on or near the UC Campus.

Also, is WaMu a good choice, or are there other banks out there that are better?

Blast it, deleted post. And it was a good one, too.

B of A is good, and I have no basis in which to compare to WaMu in most categories (satisfaction, services, cost, benefits, etc). There are far more BoA ATMs on and near campus, but WaMu has some, too.

Banks tend to be all the same now. It doesn't make much of a difference. I'd suggest going with what you know and are comfortable with.

Downtown Berkeley (BART, one block west of campus) has plenty of different banks: Washington Mutual, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and like 3 others I don't remember the names of.

But like the others of said, Bank of America has ATMs all over campus and right next to it. Though I have yet to venture into the north side of campus to find one.

BofA is better for North Side people. There is an ATM at the Terrace and one near Cheeseboard, as someone else said (so that covers northwest and central-north/northeast). I don't know of any WM or WF ATMs on North Side.

I'm almost 100% sure that Bank of America has the most ATMs that are actually physically on the campus. I'd say that have ATMs in the most convenient places in general. I can't recall off the top of my head where Wells Fargo / Washington Mutual ATMs are, but I'm sure a search of their website can show you.
