My D has finally decided made the switch from MT to Opera and has the voice and the careful training to handle it, but NOW we have a list of about 8 schools: BOCO, New England Conservatory, Hartt, Oberlin, Peabody,Cinncinnati,Curtis and OCU (She will attend both the Opera and MT sessions at OCU sessions this summer). She is being trained as the young Europeans are, learning roles carefully and appropriate to her age, beginning as Susannah in Figaro. The same with Art Songs.
Any ideas or opinions on these schools? Thanks.

BOCO - I auditioned for voice at BoCo and while I found the faculty to be very kind and knowledgable I personally found the school to be more musical theater based. If she wants to take a sample lesson I HIGHLY reccomend trying to get ahold of Patty Thom, she is amazing.
Oberlin- This is more than likely where I will be going next year. I love that it is a mostly undergraduate program which means more performance oppurtunities and individual attention.
Cincinnatti - I personally found this school to be too big for me as I prefer smaller schools. Karen Lykes is a great teacher!
I'm considering New England for grad. work even though I was accepted as an undergrad.
These are the schools I feel I can give you good info about. Your daughter should also think about the size of school she wants and the environment she wants to be in as Oberlin is a very small town and then there is BoCo and New England right in busy Boston. Hope this helps!
