Operations Research and Management Science

I was reading some literature on this major from the IEOR website and found out that only 25 students are admitted to this program. It sounds insane, but is it very tough to get in? And whats the difference between IEOR and ORMS?

only difference is the course requirement differences. IEOR is in the COE and thus follows the COE's stricter guidelines / curriculum of course (ie. physics, math, engineering breadth, etc.), whereas ORMS is in LS and thus one has a wider array of classes available to take.

so i guess its basically like the cs concentration for EECS vs CS in the L&S

ORMS is a great major. Although as an IEOR student, the class sizes would be smaller if it didn't exist.... :p (all the great ieor classes are oversubscribed this term)

^^^^^^^

do 25 orms students a year make that much of a difference in crowdedness for ieor classes?

Well, IEOR by itself is a small major with <130 people. The core classes that ORMS students take to take (which are also the core classes of IEOR students) have been oversubscribed this and the past semester (ignore the class size on telebears as some professors are nice enough to up the capacity this year, or some professors have limited the class size despite the indicated class size on telebears).

However, the professors are top notch and make themselves very accessible to the students.

The only class that is sheltered (as far as I know) from the influx on ORMS students is the IEOR Senior Project course, which only IEOR students take.
