Operations Research in Engineering School

Ok- can you guys tell me everything you know about this? Whats it like? Is it much like any of the other engineering majors? Is it much like economics and statistics? Is it highly recruited after graduation for jobs?

bump.......

I'm not an OR, but is has a really good reputation. It is definitely business oriented -- stats, econ, but there is a reason it is in the engineering school. There is lots of math, computer science, etc. ORIEs are heavily recruiting into a wide-variety of fields, not JUST i-banks. Hope this helps a little, if you want check out their website for required classes etc.

No it doesn't, it has a reputation for being the cop-out study of choice from people who failed out of the other engineering majors

jrcho- seriously? information science/ op. research is the only major in engineering school i want to do.

^I agree. I've done the hardcore engineering and hard core finance/accounting courses and I'm still learning a lot with my first course in IEOR at Columbia. Very fascinating subject and very interesting major. You need lots of math(probability and stochastic process).

BTW, my professor has a Phd from Cornell.
