hey all, i'm kind of new to this forum but i was wondering about what y'all think about my chances to get admitted to harvard and mit (i'm planning on applying early action)

also i cook, like to sing, rap, run, watch basketball, lol

feedback greatly appreciated, thanks :)

You’re unquestionably exceptionally well-qualified. But at this level of selectivity, lots of exceptionably well-qualified kids get turned down, and there’s no one who can predict accurately who will and who will not get in. Harvard is especially a crap shoot. Make sure your list includes some safeties (colleges you are sure will accept you, that you’d be happy to attend, and that you can pay for without taking on huge debt).

oh my gosh!!!

i think there is no doubt

Only thing that hurts is being Asian. I still say you have a great shot!! At least much better than mine at UChicago… Haha

You’re in at MIT, those math credentials are phenomenal. Try Caltech too. Harvard is impossible to tell, rapping sounds like a great topic for an essay ;o)

Honestly, it looks like you’re in at both schools. 5x USAMO is ridiculous.

Be sure to apply to Yale and other schools that excel in the humanities and art but not so much in math/science. These schools are constantly looking for stellar students like you to improve their mathematics departments.

Congratulations on your amazing stats! Your perfect test scores, great rank at a renowned high school, and superb ECs make you an absolute stand-out applicant to any college. If you write some above average essays, you should be accepted anywhere.

i guess the lesson to take out of this is to go for it, but don’t count my chickens before they hatch, haha
thanks for the input bros, i’ll let yall know how it goes :)

You have as good of a chance as anyone with excellent academics to be accepted to either of those universities, but both are very selective and MIT says they turn down enough kids with 2400 SATs to fill an entire class.

I need to stop opening these threads about Ivies…makes me feel like a dumbass with my 32 ACT and 2090 SAT -_-

On-topic: Like others have said, you’re in as good as position as you could be really. You’re definitely going to get into one of the Ivies, so I wouldn’t be worrying too much. As one other person said, being Asian might hurt you, but I don’t think it will hurt you to the point where Harvard strictly rejects you based on race.

The only person from my D’s school to be accepted at Harvard in the last 4 years was Asian. He was also accepted at Yale - and denied at Stanford.

If you don’t mind telling me, are there any books you used to study for these math contests? Art of problem solving or something?

@mavspride41 nah man its chill lol, i seriously got lucky on the whole sat thing, also grats on the mavs taking it all this year
@addymithas, art of problem solving is a great way to get into the whole math thing; after that i just recommend doing problems from old aimes and math olympiads (as many as you can get your hands on), but don’t look at solutions or anything until you’ve worked a significant amount of time (like the full 3 hours for an aime)
everyone else, thanks for the feedback!
