Opinion/info on jerome fisher program in management and tech

I’ve noticed random postings on the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology, and as a current student I just wanted to give my two cents (though of course, take it with a grain of salt given the natural bias). this is going to be a bit long though, sorry!!

Personally, I think the M&T program is one of the best out there for a couple of reasons:

1) it lets you do both engineering and business. For some, this solves the problem of taking the first steps towards a definitive career decision while still in HS, and for others, it’s great because it lets you combine knowledge from two extremely useful disciplines (which have amazing synergies when properly combined).
2) it has an amazing alumni base. I recently talked to an alumni on the Forbes Midas Touch List who started up a venture capital firm that manages over $1.5 billion dollars – and he’s just one of the many amazing alumni of the program. Since the program is so small, (~50 students a year for 25 years), the alumni are usually willing to take time out and give advice to undergraduates. I’ve talked to heads of VC firms, MDs at banks, partners at consulting firms, company presidents, etc …
3) it’s an amazing group of people. Some of my best friends are from the program because it brings together similar people (NOT because the program forces it upon you). The program is pretty laid back in how it’s administered. Students can choose to involve themselves as little or as much as they want to …

So that’s my two cents. Once again, this message is probably biased, but it’s my opinion. For more info on the program, the website is http://www.mandt.wharton.upenn.edu/ - though it is pretty sparse. If you still have questions, feel free to post back or give them a call. They usually have students working at the office who are pretty good with giving honest answers/advice.

They also started this summer program for high school seniors called the MTSI (mgmt and tech summer institute). Its goal is to introduce students to business and technology and show how the synergies exist, which is the essence of the M&T program. The summer thing is also good because the residential advisors are going to be current M&T students (who will be honest about the program) so you can get some answers from them, and you also just get an idea for Penn, both Wharton and Engineering … and that website is http://www.mandt.wharton.upenn.edu/mtsi.htm.

That program seems extremely interesting. But only for Senior high? How about Junior?

u friends with mike stein (jr) or a kid called haberman (freshie)?

meekchun: from what i know, the program is for high school students during the summer before senior year. i don't know if they make exceptions for people going into junior year (you can always contact them to find out - the people at the office are pretty friendly). if not, i'm sure they'll do the program again next year.

shortymxpx17: i don't know either of those people :T though the name mike stein does sound familiar. they're probably reclusive m&t's who deny their m&t connection :P (or it might just be because i'm a senior). like i had mentioned, the program is pretty relaxed so it's really up to you how involved you want to be. there are certain kids that make it through college knowing only 1 or 2 other m&ts, though that's really their loss. that trend is also changing more and more. in the past couple of years, the program has made more efforts to create unity (which is really for the benefit of the students - by senior year, most people realize this i think). this is particularly evident with the females of the program (there are VERY few females, though they're trying to equalize that) through certain women's intiatives ...

Thank you, Hichew.
I think my boy will love it.
But I am wonder the difference between MTSI and LBW. They looks very similar.

welcome! glad to help :)

i'm not sure about the nitty gritty details (and i'm not certain what LBW is - i'm assuming its the wharton one), but basically, MTSI is hosted by the M&T program and it deals with engineering AND business. once again, i don't know much about LBW, but i get the impression that M&T is more exploratory (DISCOVER business, technology and cross section), whereas LBW is more for kids who know they want to go to wharton? you should send the m&t people an email, they'd prob know better ...
