I am very interested in attending Berkeley next year, that is if I get in. I would like to get UC Berkeley students' opinions about the campus, programs, and any other general information.

Thanks

Re: the campus -- it's amazingly beautiful. Seriously, I think it's the best campus ever, not just for its beauty, but for the liveliness that pervades it, the natural feel to it, the hilliness, the pretty and varied architecture, etc. I've been all over many of the "traditionally" pretty campuses (UCLA, Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, U Chicago, etc.), but Berkeley's is the best by far.

Just my opinion. :)

Re: programs -- you can't beat Berkeley. Pretty much every single program is ranked in the top. Every department and program is full of awesome people -- faculty who are leaders in their field, bright students, top grad students who are doing cutting-edge research, etc.

General info: I <3 Sproul Plaza. It's my favorite place in the world. Also, the city of Berkeley is my favorite city evar.

campus: very beautiful, it has an intellectual feel to it and the carillons are amazing. It can be a long walk to classes, depending on where you are, longer than some other UCs that are more compacted. Lots of activity and permeating school spirit though.

programs: as kyle said, very strong. Undergrad biz and engineering programs have been ranked among the top-3 in the country and are internationally acclaimed. English, political science, economics and architecture programs are also considered among the top few in the nation. Basically, you won't find a better myriad of opportunities anywhere else.

general info: despite what some people may claim, there is a social life on campus; if you're bored with Cal, you're simply not trying. The athletic teams are a popular draw, and the Greek Theatre draws some of the top bands in the world. There's an active, but not overwhelming, greek system, if that's your thing. Also, the student-run newspaper, The Daily Cal, is widely considered on of the college elites. There's really so much to do, all you have to do is sign up for it.

good luck!
