Opinion on Most Complete University

Oh, and the acceptance rate is falling due to the Common App now.

Also, Michigan doesn’t play the US Rankings game. We don’t super score says scored or try to get as many people to apply as possible

Michigan is nowhere near the 15th best in the world.

Sorry.

[Top 100 Universities in the World 2010/2011 | Top Universities](http://www.topuniversities.com/top-100-universities-in-the-world-2011)

If you’ve learned anything at CC it’s that World Rankings are essentially useless.

What you should be looking at is whether Michigan is top 15 in the US.

If it isn’t, then how exactly is it 15th in the world?

For the record, USNews has it ranked at #29 in the US

[National University Rankings | Top National Universities | US News Best Colleges](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/page+3)

US News rankings reward schools that play to their system.

And yet, you don’t seem to care how the World Ranking you just posted is actually compiled. The point I am trying to make is that you’re obviously biased. You picked that ranking because it has your school higher up.

As a disclaimer, not hating on Michigan, for they produced absolute gods among men in Tom Brady and “CDubs himself”, but that’s a different story.

However, the world rankings carry no weight whatsoever, either here on CC, in the American workplace, or the American populace. Boston University ahead of Dartmouth, BC (bias, but true I believe =P), Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Rice, and USC? Nay, sir.

Well if we can’t accept my rankings why accept yours?

Of course I picked the higher one, i’m not picking the ranking system that Michigan doesn’t play to.

A lot of people here aren’t giving Michigan near enough credit academically.

It comes down to Stanford and Michigan…

It’s obviously Virginia Tech…no doubt!

@PurpleDuckMan

I’m happy to see that you have pride in your school, but we get it – you’ve expressed your love for Michigan like 10 times. You’re just throwing Stanford in your posts so you don’t seem 100% biased, but we can all see that’s exactly where you stand.
Nobody discredited Michigan’s academics, but if you really believe it’s the 15th best University in the world, please tell me what programs are absolutely stellar at Michigan other than Engineering. As far as I know, other than Engineering, the academic programs are solid just like the ones at most other schools. Don’t say Ross, because the job placement outside of the region really can’t compare to the majority of the schools in the top 20 US News Rankings.

Why do you have to turn this into an argument when the OP asked for opinions?

PurpleDuckMan

The survey you point us to shows Michigan as #15 in the world and Dartmouth as #90. Now, I have a great deal of respect for Michigan as an academic institution. I could easily argue that Michigan is better than Dartmouth (or just as easily argue that Dartmouth is better than Michigan), but 15 and 90???

Of course USNWR has its problems too. And all of this goes to the problem with ratings, which only reflect the criteria and weighting of the group publishing the list.

As Mark Twain reputedly said: There are lies, damnable lies and statistics.

UCLA and Stanford came to mind.

I’m sorry but what are you talking about? Ross is consistently ranked in the top 2 or 3 business schools in the country and is a target school for wall street IB and consulting jobs. The CC type don’t like Michigan because the acceptance rate has been high in the past (which doesn’t actually mean anything about the quality of the school), but that will soon be low 30’s/high 20’s due to the commonapp switch. Whatever, I’ll take advantage of everything Michigan has to offer and if you all want to miss out, so be it.

Somehow, I bet all of our schools are top twenty! Haha

Okay, I admit that I sound really stupid there. I actually do have an idea of how Ross places, I just didn’t put it into words well at all.

and that’s excellent that you’ll take advantage of your undergraduate institution has to offer; after all you’re paying for it.

UCLA!
Great location (Westwood, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood)
Great weather
Near So Cal beaches
Close enough to Mammoth Mountain for ski/snowboarding
If Mammoth is too far there is always Big Bear
Top Education
Division I

Beats Stanford and Berkeley on the weather (sorry but true)

Berkeley. Nuff said.

Chapman University in Orange, California, has the whole package including the most trusted brands. Congrats to the Chapman Panther! [Chapman ranks among Orange County’s ‘most trusted brands’ Happenings](Chapman ranks among Orange County’s ‘most trusted brands’ | Happenings)

My vote is for Stanford.

This one is too easy. Brown, and it’s not close. Princton Review’s happiest students. Ivy League prestige. Can take any class pass/fail. Not cutthroat. Excellent graduate and professional school placement. Pretty campus. Successful sports in its conference. It’s the tits.
